ALEXEI BARRIONUEVO, Guantina’s creator and strategist, is a versatile and internationally experienced journalist, documentary filmmaker and communications strategist. He has worked for premier news organizations, reporting on Hollywood, the music industry, global economics, political and social issues, major breaking news and historic criminal trails.
Alexei has served as a staff writer at The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Billboard and TheWrap. He has reported and investigated a range of challenging and emotional stories, from the rescue of the trapped Chilean miners, to earthquakes in Latin America, to military operations in the slums of Rio de Janeiro.
He criss-crossed five countries as the Times’ Southern Cone bureau chief based in Brazil, oversaw international coverage of the music industry from Los Angeles as Billboard’s International Editor and delved into the fall of Enron while reporting for the Journal on the global energy industry.
Alexei also worked in Los Angeles for leading crisis communications firm Sitrick and Company.
A Chicago native, Alexei is an aspiring book author, passionate about filmmaking and photography. He holds a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley.
